Comparisons Esay

There are many things that can be compared, but for this I’m using Kesha’s song “Praying” & Sharon G. Flake’s book The Skin I’m In.There are quite a few more similarities than differences between the song “Praying” & the book  The Skin I’m In. Lets take a look at them.

For the similarities….well they both deal with the internal conflict of getting over pain & they handle it pretty dang well. The stories told are both told through thoughts. Char pretty much putts Maleeka through hell, Just like in Kesha’s song. Maleeka at the end of the story had to fight for herself. In the song it say ” ‘Cause you brought the flames and you put me through hell. I had to learn how to fight for myself.”

But a little turn of events here, the differences, in Kesha’s song she HOPES that the person she’s talking about will change while in TSII, Maleeka’s bullies do have a change of heart. Kesha doesn’t even know If this person has changed or not. In TSII, we know that the classmates have changed. At the end it says, ” “Welcome back, Miss Madison,” Miss Saunders says, giving me a wink. “Class wouldn’t be the same unless you were late” Everybody laughs and turns my way. “Yeah,” John-John says, “welcome back.” “.

Those are all the comparisons I can think of. That’s the end of thins esay.

{The Skin I’m In} ESAY

The Skin I’m In by Sharon G. Flake is about this girl constantly being bullied by her piers about her skin color, her good grades, and her clothes. This girl being bullied name is Maleeka Madison….the third who goes to McClinton Middle School. A theme for the story is ‘Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover’.

In the beginning Maleeka is somehow tolerating the bullying yet everyone is still nagging her with the song that goes “Maleeka, Maleeka, baboom boom boom, we sure wanna keep her, baboom boom boom, but she just so black, baboom boom boom, we just can’t see her”.

Near the middle there’s this quote, “I got enough lip-gloss to shine a car and a crease on my pants to cut someone”. This is when she finally gets good clothes and looks like somebody hoping the teasing would stop since they would always tease about her looks.

Close to the end of the story the classroom catches on fire and Maleeka desides to tell the teacher that it was Charlese who set it on fire. Something I bet no one thought Maleeka would do. After that, everyone is being really kind to Maleeka.

Now here’s when the counter argument comes in, some people most likely think that Maleeka isn’t getting stronger with the fact that she got beat up and thrown around for something she didn’t do and she almost got raped because she accidentally went down a road she shouldn’t  have, and I respect that opinion and is understandable, BUT she is still alive because she toughed it out. This kinda proves that she isn’t what everyone thought she was. There are a few comparisons in the book related to the theme like, “I will be strong, strong like the sea and the wind”. This proves that she is strong and will stand her ground no matter what comes at her though kids would she her thinking that she is weak. Though throughout the story, Maleeka gains more confidence, not doing what Char tells her to do, pretty much making her own path.

All in all Maleeka is stronger than others may see her as. This is how I got the theme ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’, because even the weakest person can become the strongest of all.

Introduction to The Skin I’m In

The book I’m reading is The Skin I’m In. This story takes place in school. In Miss Saunders’ class specificly. She is the….actually i don’t think it says what she teaches.

The main character is Maleeka who is constantly getting bullied. Her mom doesn’t have the money to buy Maleeka clothes so her mom has to sew the clothes. And since Maleeka doesn’t like the clothes her mom makes for her, she made a deal with Charlese that if she does her homework, Charlese will bring Maleeka good clothes to wear for the day. Her mom finally gets a bonus at her job and gets to buy Maleeka some clothes.

School Clubs

School clubs are a huge part of extra curricular activities, so are sports but that’s not what this newscast is about. Blackhawk has a lot of clubs from Jewelry Club to Minecraft Cub to Art Club. You name it the school just might make it happen!

There are a few new clubs here at Blackhawk. Some of those clubs are the Foreign Language Club, and the Nintendo Club. Check ’em out!

“I decided to make the Nintendo Club so people who also like Nintendo can come together and meet other fans in the school,” says Josh, the creator of Nintendo Club. In Nintendo Club you get to play games on portable devices such as a 3Ds or the new Nintendo Switch.

Now onto the Foreign Language Club. This club allows students and perhaps even teachers to learn a language from another location of the world . “I’m really interested in Japan so I reaaallly want to learn Japanese!” Olivia tells Mrs. Low.

There are many old but still really good clubs. Let’s talk about them.

Art Club is a rather calm club. 8th grade is allowed to paint blocks unlike the 6th and 7th grade. You get to draw, paint, & use water colors. You can also bring your own art supplies.

Another club is Minecraft Club. Usually takes place in the upstairs computer lab, but because of the crowd of people in front of the room when it was announced this year they may have to go ahead and use two computer labs next time.

Attending school clubs will also raise your GPA when you go to college. With a high GPA you can get into an excellent college to get a better education.

Now you know all the benefits of going to school clubs. So go tell your friends about it, go join a club or two, and most importantly, have fun!

Virginia Vacation Newscast

There was a time a few summers ago where a family of a son, daughter, father, & a step mom were visiting Virginia. There were a decent amount of fun things to do in Virginia such as; going to the beach, going to the water park that was there, going to the amusement park that was also there and so on. They were there for the whole summer.

The family of four went to the beach, water park, & amusement park each 2  times. The beach probably a few more times. The daughter was pretty scared of all the rides.

“I don’t wanna go on the roller coasters!” the daughter whined. “You’ll be fine,” her brother reassure her. Her brother, Cameron, was an adrenalin junkie. The dad and step mom didn’t make her ride the rides if she didn’t want to, but this was all at Bush Gardens, the amusement park. The water park was a whole other story.

Olivia, the sister, LOVED the water park. “My favorites are Collosol Curl & Wild Thang,” she says. Cameron loves all the rides. “I really want to go again, JINX!” The siblings say.

I Am A Reader :3

The last book I read was Bakuman book 1. I couldn’t find book 2 so I had to go to book 3 :/. It’s a manga about someone who wants to be a manga creator. Most mangas are from animes, But Bakuman isn’t. I really like it because I like to draw manga and anime ( teachers will often find it on my work 😛 ).

I chose 2 books from the library; A Mad Zombie Party &  Bakuman Book 3. I already knew the background of Bakuman sooooo…yeah. For A Mad Zombie Party, I found it in the YHBA  section, so I didn’t really know what to expect.

So that’s all for my first post. I don’t know what else to put.

TO THE NEXT POST!!
